THE REVELATION OF COVID-19: WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU?

COVID19-ARTICLE.pngI believe it was the Roman Poet, Horace, who theorized about the effects of adversity on the human character. The statement was – “Adversity is the true test of character.” It is nothing novel that he wrote on, but at least he created a framework to think about how humans behave when circumstances or situations become difficult for living. This is also something that resonates with each human, so this conversation isn’t tangential to relationship dynamics either. It is in adversity that you find elements of your personality enhanced or advanced.

Abraham Lincoln, a man of great thought and respect, lanky and full of swagger, swanked his way from Horace by upping the ante for the human character. Lincoln’s theory on power as a better test of human character arises from his words – “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” His assertion, though not finite, is faultless. Power, in its various forms and expression of human capacity, underlies the true revelation of the self.

THE FEAR OF MAN – TWO VIEWS

The fear of man is perhaps the major fear many are trapped with and have long been unable to deal with as they manage their relationships with others. It puts a leash and restraint on a person that one becomes incapacitated in a given circumstance to create needed change or to influence it. In extreme circumstances, it has been the difference between success and failure in a given venture or cause.

I want to look at it from two perspectives.

First. The projected fear, which grows from you towards another. This is the fear you have for another man, whether overt or covert. In the case of the former, you are aware of the consequences of going against such persons and you would rather not be in their bad books. So you restrain yourself from certain actions or words in order not to offend, even when it is apparent that they are in error.

When such fear is covert, you leave in denial about the influence of that person over your emotions and choices. You convince yourself that you live or function independently of the endorsement by the object of your fear.

KNOWING BY THE SPIRIT

“Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things?” – Mark2:8 NIV

One major secret revealed by Jesus on how to gain insight or understanding of the things around you is by learning to focus on the Spirit within you. The Holy Spirit, that lives in you, knows and searches all things (1 Cor. 2:10).

In this instance, Jesus did not read the minds of the Pharisees to know what they were thinking. Some people try to figure out stuff on the outside by observing and reading the signs around them. Jesus didn’t do that, but searched in His Spirit to get knowledge. This will be a more accurate reading of the circumstance or persons involved.

While it may be possible for persons and situations to give prompts that create meaning, this is often times riddled with inaccuracies. These errors in judgement may lead to wrong conclusions and mistakes in choices and actions.

The fail-proof means the Father has given us to gain accurate knowledge and insight to all of life’s issues is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We must constantly filter life through His presence and be highly conscious of His activities in us. He is in us and not in the world (John 14:17). So you cannot find answers through the world because the revealer of Truth is not in it.

The Gift of the Father to us is so amazing that our constant victory in life is guaranteed, but we have to engage perpetually. You don’t try to see in the dark with your eyes do you? The scriptures say the whole world lies in darkness 1 John 5:19, so nothing observed from the outside is accurate. This is why Jesus says in John 14 that the Holy Spirit will guide us into Truth.

So if we must know anything correctly, it will only be by the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus did in the passage here and was able to arrest an ugly situation and bring God the glory.

LET’S TALK ABOUT FEAR

Fear

Here are three major fears you will have to overcome if you want to attempt at executing your mission on earth. They come in varying degrees and appear at different seasons of your life. Be conscious of them and how they subtly motivate your actions or inactions.

1. The fear of inadequacy. This is an internal condition that leaves you conceited about your true worth. It prevents you from even trying to conceive an idea or own an inspiration because you feel incompetent or unqualified.

2. The fear of failure. This is when your self-inflicted inadequacy meets an assumed unfavourable external condition. This fear makes you constantly look to the impossibility of things, thereby hindering your ability to even begin.

STOP SINNING??

Stop Sinning Shows Warning Sign And Control

STOP SINNING!!!! yeah right!
I am sure someone has yelled that at you from some pulpit or platform before, or you have channeled the same to others in trying to be the proxy for righteousness. How well has that worked? Well… I just thought to share a little thought from my personal experience about overcoming sin and living a victorious life in the Lord.

A lot of struggle in one area or another, or multiple areas depending on the former life you had been subjected to. Some wonder if it is really possible to overcome these personal weaknesses and live a life free from the constant struggle to avoid sin. Some have even resigned their ‘fate’ and agreed to the lie of the devil that it is a part of human nature and the burden will always remain with us.

Well, the secret to dealing with this aspect of your life is very simple. It is not far from the secular knowledge of “Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are.” You would agree with me that most of us have conformed our behavior, or even changed our lives all because of certain friendships we have cultivated. True! When love and respect infuses a relationship, change occurs, knowingly or unknowingly.

THREE IMPORTANT BENEFITS OF TRUE FRIENDSHIPS

hand-photography-love-finger-arm-swirl-1202962-pxhere.comFriendship is a gift to us all. I am not using the loose term “friends” in initiating these thoughts, but friendship. This is because I am writing about the concept itself and not the simplistic reference to persons we are acquainted with. More so because I am seeking to unearth the deeper dynamics of the operation of the concept in human interaction. So let me quickly share three benefits you enjoy when you find true friendship.

REAL CONVERSATIONS:

Imagine having something to say and not having someone to tell. Imagine also having someone to tell but not having reliable and trusted feedback. Words flow from thoughts and expressed through the lips. However, that process isn’t complete or fulfilling until it is received by another thought process and responded to in an active conversation. Conversations help encapsulate the complexities of life into relatable soundbites that humanize our experience through resonance with another person’s journey.

We were made to communicate, and through this process unburden the mind and heart, that is, the thoughts and emotions layered by the roiling issues we face each day. Conversations help unbundle perceptions, positions, and prejudices we have mustered because they are constantly challenged by other opinions and worldview.
