The Father dropped something in my heart this morning and I want to briefly share some parts that may apply to you. I’ll share it in five paragraphs.
I have found that knowledge has greatly increased with the proliferation of information and the tools to access this. For this reason people in this generation know a lot more at their age compared to people in previous generations. Our kids today are already interacting and functioning in a context of information overload, as I even heard my 3 year old niece once reacted to her dad’s intense play by saying: “daddy stop terrorising me”. Knowledge and concepts, peddled by written or spoken words are daily communicated over portable mobile media, which perform multiple functions, and our generation is already saturated.
Here is the problem. The Bible records in 1 Cor. 8:1 that “knowledge puffs up”. A very close observation will reveal the link between the rise in knowledge and rebellion in the heart of men. Rebellion has taken hold of many because they are bloated with “knowledge”. They think they know much now and can question everything. While the ability to question is a positive quality that can bring progress, however without understanding, it leads to rebellion. This is where many today have pitched their tents – a rebellious heart is present with them.
I am privileged to have straddled two generations (pre-90s and post 90s) and what I find is a severe increase in rebellion in the heart of the latter generation. Because we do not give sufficient and significant attention to this phenomenon in our families, churches, and society, so much damage is happening at the individual level to people. It is destroying the honour, respect, and esteem that provides the basis for functional relationships, transmuting of morals, and an enduring society.
Try monitoring the activities within any group you are membered. You will find so much rebellion at work. Simple rules that are meant to ensure disciple and orderliness are flouted with abandon. When challenged, there are ‘rational’ excuses intelligently produced to justify disobedience. The operation of the spirit in the heart of people seeks to only project personal interest over the good of the group. This is a difficult thing to deal with because it is almost akin to encroaching one ones survival instinct. This is why a lot of leaders use manipulation to get things done.
We all need to check our hearts. Do a heart check every day of your life to see if there is rebellion at work. I prayed for myself this morning asking the Father to expose this in my life. In the same 1 Cor. 8:2 it says “Those who think they know something, do not yet know as they ought to know.” Rebellion is a heart issues and you need to allow God kill it within you. Prophet Samuel likens it to witchcraft (1 Sam 15:23), and Paul in Rom 13:2 says rebellious people will bring judgment on themselves. To start, I will encourage you to research what rebellion means.
Very apt, a word in time! This is why I hold King Solomon’s words (“Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it”) so dear, and may it one of my daily prayers, that the windows and doors to my heart be guarded by divine help. Thanks for this Pa Reg.
